Ginkgo Newsletter Q3 2022
Dear Alumna / Dear Alumnus,
As Ginkgo is continuously growing, we would like to keep you informed about our development and activities with this second issue of our newsletter. We are glad you enjoyed our first update and thank you for your great feedback!
In this quarter, we give you an update on our Group Management Board of Eraneos as well as our first in-person trade show appearance as a new brand. We also show you two project highlights from Ginkgo Analytics and Cybersecurity, provide insights into our publication on autonomous driving and introduce you to our new office in Hamburg. Last but not least, we give you a sneak peek at our upcoming offsite (you won’t believe where!).
As last time, feel free to contact us and send us feedback – just drop us a line at [email protected]. Now sit back and find out what your former colleagues are up to, maybe you’ll see some new faces too!
I hope you had a great third quarter and wish you a good start into the last quarter of this year.
All the best,
Daniel

Eraneos @ InnoTrans
In September, Ginkgo participated at InnoTrans 2022, the leading international trade fair for transport technology in Berlin. Not only were we at site with our colleagues from Ginkgo, but we also joined forces with AWK and Quint for the first time as Eraneos at our very own booth. Sub-divided into the five trade fair segments (Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors, Tunnel Construction), together we were able to cover three of them with our collective portfolio. Throughout the four days, we met several existing customers and connected with promising players from the industry. In addition to our booth, we took the chance to position ourselves as serious partners within the rail-world, by giving presentations on paradigm shifts caused by new developments like Automated Train Operations (ATO).
We emphasized the importance of ATO as a game changer for the rail industry. ATO maximizes transportation capacities on existing infrastructure, enhances safety, and is the answer to the lack of train drivers. We pointed out that interfaces and standards need to be defined jointly to ensure cross-border train operations in Europe. Therefore, rail operators and OEMs need to join or establish initiatives for defining ATO standards to shape the future of ATO.
Project Highlight
Security Strategy for a Cloud-Based Sales Process
One of our clients developed a cloud platform to support different clusters in the sales process and faced the challenge of implementing IT security across all applications on it, standardized and early in the development. We supported this initiative by developing a shared “security journey” for the products, along with a matching governance model and guidance on how to implement the necessary controls and checkpoints at crucial points in the product lifecycle. While the project is still ongoing, some early results are: 98% of applications have named a dedicated person responsible for security and a 20% increase in application compliance with company standards.

Ginkgo’s AI Roadshow
We are proud that Ginkgo is a licensed AI Design Sprint facilitator since November 2021. The AI Design sprint is a mixture of the classical Design Sprint methodology (developed by Jake Knapp) and a typical trump card deck. 33A did a fantastic job collecting all kinds of different general AI use cases and clustering them into 9 categories with over 60 different use cases, increasing in difficulty. There are three different workshop formats, from focusing on a holistic overview of the whole company to diving deep into a specific process or enhancing your product/service with AI. While a single workshop can bring valuable insights for a small part of a company, a workshop series can create a full-blown AI use case map for the whole company. We call it the ‘AI Roadshow’.

Autonomous Driving
The world of autonomous vehicles is highly complex, so we at Ginkgo have built a holistic view and a service portfolio that is based on the following three pillars: Autonomous Vehicle, Connectivity and Remote Control. Our autonomous vehicle experts – Ralph Tritsch, Ali Shahpoor and the rest of the team – are looking forward to supporting clients on their journey to autonomous driving

Ginkgo Office Opening
To cater for our growth, we moved to our new HQ office at Zeughausmarkt in Hamburg. You will now find us close to St. Pauli. As we all know, a modern office is not all about work. Therefore – apart from premium work and meeting spaces – we have a garden with a BBQ, a gym, shower, a kicker room, our own clubbing space, a lounge, and bar. We look forward to welcoming you to future alumni events – where you can also taste our own Ginkgo Gin.
What Comes Next?
As you know, Ginkgo is infamous for our insane events and offsites in magnificent cities. This year, Ginkgo will travel to a magical, bohemian beach paradise. It will be one our longest travel time offsites, but well worth it. The location is known for its lush jungles, Mayan ruins, gorgeous lagoons and upscale nightlife. You could probably already guess it – yes, we will have our next offsite in Tulum, Mexico!
If you miss these offsites and want to connect to know about this year’s crazy offsite stories – just reach out to us!

Recruiting Event
If you know someone who should participate in this event, then feel free to spread the word! Potential new Ginkgos will receive more info about the recruiting event by sending an email to [email protected]

We hope you enjoyed our second Alumni newsletter and appreciate your feedback. If you have any ideas or questions, feel free to reach out to us via [email protected].
Are there any fairs or events we should be aware? Just let us know! Would be great to meet you there.
We wish you a successful start into Q4, 2022.
Best wishes from Ginkgo
